Creating new rituals: How to rest more

Let's talk about rest.

Life is busy.

We need to be doing less not more.

We are constantly on the go.

Being all for everyone and having it all.

Our catchphrase when people ask how we are is “busy”. But what if you made a choice to honor rest more? This is exactly what I did a few years ago. I choose to prioritise rest. Allocating various forms of rest into my day, my week, and through the seasons. Rest isn’t simply about putting your feet up or sleeping more. There are different forms of rest.

The different types of rest and examples are:

Physical - passive (eg. sleep) and active (eg. yoga)

Sensory - disconnecting from a busy and noisy world eg. unplugging from screens and social media.

Emotional - giving yourself space to just be. Be with your emotions and how you are feeling right now. Space to process thoughts and things that are happening in your life.

Spiritual - thinking about what your purpose is in life and thinking and engaging in something bigger than you.

Mental - space for your brain to repair and from constant demands placed on it. Things like regular breaks and journaling are good here.

Creative - allowing time to be inspired and creative. Also time in nature.

Social - recuperate with the help of others. Connecting, laughing, and engaging.

Which do you need right now? Write a list of everything that makes you feel rested and nourished within these categories. How often do you do these things? Do more of them by scheduling them into your diary.

Lots of love
